Bei einem Interview hatte Moviehole die Chance Mel Gibson über seine erfolgreichen Filmprojekte Mad Max und Lethal Weapon und deren Fortsetzungen zu befragen.

Demnach scheint die Hoffnung auf ein Lethal Weapon 5 sinnlos zu sein und die Serie wurde zu den Akten gelegt.

[..] Speaking of ‘could put them back in the good books’ offers, Gibson is said to have recently knocked back an offer to reprise his role as that law-enforcing loose cannon, Martin Riggs, in a Lethal Weapon 5. “Oh no, I don’t want to go there again…oh boy was that done to death. I just want to do things that really give me a kick”, he says of the series that put him on the Hollywood map. Director Richard Donner is said to have an idea for a Lethal Weapon 5 that would be set within a 24-hour time period "For Lethal Weapon 5 it would have to be a story that would be worthwhile, but I think maybe there is something out there”, Donner said. “I could do one [this film] tomorrow”, Donner said a couple of years back, later adding that he’d like to put “the franchise to bed properly”.
